Eurofarsi Convention

The Aims and Activities of the Convention

The Eurofarsi Convention is an independent scientific and cultural centre founded in August 1993, for the purpose of promoting and facilitating a fundamental changeover from the present Arabic-based Farsi-alphabet and script to Latin. Eurofarsi Convention is a centre for initiating and directing a series of research, educational and technological activities that can help bring about this significant cultural transformation. The major areas of Convention's work are:

1. Designing, testing and perfecting the Eurofarsi script and its rules and conventions. Producing educational documents and texts necessary for systematic teaching and learning of Eurofarsi. Assisting with projects for individual and group teaching of Eurofarsi. As the first step, Eurofarsi Convention has designed and produced the first version of Eurofarsi alphabet and script, Eurofarsi #1. This script will be the official script used by the Convention, until its review and possible modifications in the next annual meeting of the Convention. The "Eurofarsi #1" script is registered and copyrighted by the Convention.

2. To explain and emphasize the necessity of changing the Farsi alphabet and the tremendous economics, scientific, technological, cultural and artistic gains that would accrue to farsi speaking countries and peoples in the world as a result of this development.

3. Publication of an ever-expanding collection of Farsi books, texts and literature, ancient and classical as well as modern and contemporary, in Eurofarsi.

4. To make Eurofarsi a script that would be widely in use among academics and scholars and an increasing number of the general public. To help shape a substantial layer of Farsi speaking intelligentsia and professionals who know Eurofarsi and use it in their scientific and professional activities.

5. Production and distribution of computer programs in Eurofarsi. Eurofarsi allows the use by Farsi speakers of the latest and most established and popular software available on the market with no or minor modifications. The technical and informatique department of the Convention will not only produce Eurofarsi versions of the major brand software on the market, but also directly engage in production and distribution of specialised computer programs for teaching Eurofarsi, converting text and data from Arabic Farsi to Eurofarsi and vice versa, printing Arabic Farsi from Eurofarsi files, etc., which would all facilitate and encourage ever wider use of Eurofarsi.

6. Production and publication of children's books and literature in Eurofarsi. Production of instruction books and material for teaching Eurofarsi to children.
